A message from Coach Cal Elder 1/19/10: Well, we did it again!!!!! Great swimming along with a successful team travel.

The swimmers in Memphis swam incredible this past weekend with every swimmer recording at least one best time. The big drops were absolutely stunning. Jordan Ames dropped an amazing minute and 14 seconds in the mile (from a time only 3 month old) and achieved her very first winter SE cut ever. Other double digit drops were turn in by Eva Bodon(20 in 500 free), Andrew Davis (17 in 500 free), Logan Davis (25 in 400 IM AND 38 in 200 Fly), and Jack Martin (25 in 500 free). Michael Fullan was very close with 9.7 in the 400 IM and broke the 2 minute mark in the 200 free. Every eligible swimmer was able to come back and swim in either Finals or Consolations(Catherine Davis's was first time ever in a consolation final swim) and when we did, we swam best times in the majority of the swims which just shows the tenacity of our swimmers!!! (Mimi Fullan, coming back from a foot injury, swam 3 best times in consolation final swims)

Other highlights were Mary Clay Carr winning the high point and winning multiple events in the 13-14 girl age group and the 13-14 girls won the Medley Relay. Other swimmers scoring point for the team were Jordan Ames, William Bloodworth, Eva Bodon, Andrew Davis, Birch Ely, Hanna Brook Gibbons, Luke Huffstutler, Jack Martin, and Kelsey Williams.

MCAL team records were set by the Senior boys in both Relay's (Mike Roberts, Michael Fullan, Luke Huffstutler, Andrew Davis(free), Logan Davis(Medley), Luke broke the 500 free record and Mary Clay broke the 100 free time.

Isabel Burgess took a huge step this past weekend swimming the 200 Free and IM and 100 Back, Breast, and Fly for the first time ever, and all in the same meet. Not a tear and no DQ's. Not to bad.

Swimmers swimming new SE times were Jordan Ames, Birch Ely and Hannah Brook Gibbons(4 new cuts). Way to go M*C*A*L swimmers!!!

A message from Coach Cal Elder 1/11/10: Congratulations on a fantastic meet this past weekend where every MCAL swimmer had at least 1 best time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had 3 swimmers with perfect meets with 100 % best times and at least 9 swims ( Mallie McCleland 11 swims, Carmen Perez 10 swims, Mac Swoger 9 swims.). Those close to perfection with times already (missed 1 swim being a best time and swam both days with no DQ's) were Eva Bodon, Rachel Brooks, Megan Brunsvold, Andrew Davis, Elizabeth Reid Gray, Natalie Jones, Rachel Morris, and Alex Mueller.

High point honor for the meet age group for 13 14 boys when to Luke Huffstutler (also set 3 MCAL team records, 500,1000, 1650 free), while Lamar Campbell was High point runner up for the 8 and under girls and Megan Brunsvold was the runner up for the 9-10 girls. Way to go kids.

Swimmers achieving new winter SE times were: Rachel Brooks (4), Megan Brunsvold (1), Andrew Davis (2), Birch Ely (first one ever), and Hannah Brook Gibbons (1).

Congrats to the swimmers who had swims with drops of over 10 seconds: Jordan Ames, William Bloodworth, Eva Bodon, Rachel Brooks, Ellie Campbell, Grace Cole ( 2 swims), Hanna Brook Gibbons, Mary Elizabeth Harrison, Luke Huffstutler, Mallie McCleland (3 swims), Carmen Perez, and Mac Swoger.

The following swimmers also swam in their first USS meet ever: Aitan and Sivanne Bachrach, Sabrina Balmer, Erik Brunsvold, Catherine Grace Couch, and William Wood.

One other note of interest is last month some of our 8 and under swimmers went to Nashville to compete in the 8 and under St Nick Classic. While there, the 100 Free Relay team of Ann and Liz Vandevelde, Patsy Elder, and Lamar Campbell broke the MCAL team record. Those results are attached as well.

Way to go swimmers! Let's keep up the great work and stay focused for "Championship Month" in February.

GO M*C*A*L!!!
