M*C*A*L swimmers did AWESOME at Southeasterns!!!!
Even with the 5 swimmers M*C*A*L took to the SE Championship meet, we were a great group of scrappy swimmers. In all my years of coaching, I have NEVER had a overall performance as we had last weekend. While M*C*A*L only had 23 Individual swims in the meet, we came away with 24 best times, I can honestly say I have never had a team go over 100 % best times for a meet ever in my life or even seen a team do that.
Lamar Campbell led the M*C*A*L swimmers scoring in 6 of 7 events, setting 1 Team records in the 100 FLY and swam 3 Quad A times. Patsy Elder scored in one event and swam a quad A time as well. The two of them teamed with Rachel Morris and Mary Morgan Elder to place 6th in both Free and Medley Relays at the meet.
Not to be left out of the overview, senior swimmer, Luke Huffstutler had quite possibly the best meet I have ever seen of any swimmer I have ever coached in recent memory. He improved all 7 of his events and even did a best time at the 500 split of his 1000 free. He set 5 M*C*A*L team records as well at the meet. One fact that is amazing to me is the number of places he dropped. In my history, at this meet, the record for places dropped by a swimmer on the team is 22. Luke went into the meet seeded 78th in the 200 free and finished 38th. That was a 40 spot drop. Later in the meet he had a 38 place drop in the 200 IM from 63 to 25. He also had a 23 place drop as well in his 100 free.
As a team finish M*C*A*L finished in the small teams division in 4th place out of 40 plus in that division alone. Even with just 5 swimmers we were 20th overall in the meet. As our Team T-shirt states: THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE AQUA-MARINES!!!!!!
